Birthday Wishes Challenges

Here is another card that I made this weekend for some challenges - the Pals Paper Arts PPA63 Color Challenge (Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait and Melon Mambo) and Get Sketchy (GS#59) sketch challenge. As soon as I saw the color combo, I thought of this patterned paper I had in my stash. I paired it up with this Lockhart Stamp Company Rose of Sharon image, which I colored with Copic markers and sponged with  So Saffron ink.

The Martha Stewart butterfly border punch is a new purchase that I had to play with and the sentiment is from PTI's Birthday Basics set. For the butterfly button, I tied it with some DMC floss and left the ends long enough to make antennae. Pretty simple and cheery!

RI Sketch Challenge

Happy Wednesday! It is once again time for a 'What If? Wednesday' sketch challenge from Repeat Impressions. I used another of the fun Christmas penguin images for my card. This little bugger, swinging from a wreath, is just so cute! I covered the wreath portion of the image with some green Flower Soft and added a few red nailhead stickers to look like ornaments. I added a bow, made using the Bow Easy, and then cut out the little penguin and popped him up on foam squares in front of the ribbon. His beak and feet were colored using a yellow Spica marker.

The background of the image panel was sponged with Riding Hood Red ink. I paper pieced his hat with the same plaid paper I used for the square shaped panel and then added some Liquid Applique to his hat.  The main background paper is from Cosmo Cricket's Jolly by Golly 6x6 pad, the plaid and the flourish strips are scraps from my stash.

RI SOTW - Candy Corn

It's Stamp of the Week day at Repeat Impressions and this week's stamp is this fun candy corn image(#2306-D Candy Corn).  I stamped the image multiple times to create a strip of patterned paper and colored it using Copic markers.  It is paired with one of my favorite Repeat Impressions images, Jack o'lantern cat (#806-G Jack o'lantern cat).  The background paper is from Cosmo Cricket's Matilda 6x6 paper pad. 

My layout is this week's Sketch for you to try from Jen del Muro. I added some crocheted ribbon (it reminded me of spider webs...) and some Terracotta Tile satin ribbon for the top horizontal layer in the sketch.  The pumpkin kitty image is matted on a Labels Fourteen Nestabilities layer and framed by four metallic pumpkin brads from Making Memories.

For the inside I used another strip of the candy corn patterned paper layered on a mat that I cut using a Martha Stewart border punch.  The sentiment is also from Repeat Impressions (#2313-G, Pumpkin Day).

CPS186 - Artichoke

Happy Friday! Do you have big plans for the weekend? It's going to be beautiful here this weekend! 

I created this card as a thank you note for my sister for a gift she recently gave us. The gift was wrapped in white butcher-type paper that she had stamped all over with this artichoke image. I cut a few of the images out and colored them using colored pencils, then cut out some of the artichoke leaves and layered them on the base layer using foam tape to give it some dimension, like a real artichoke. 

I used two different patterned papers, with the side panels cut to fit this week's CPS186 sketch, and topped it all off with a few strips of ScorTape that I then covered with Flower Soft.  Finally, I added some stitch marks around the patterned paper layers to make them stand out more.

Belli Challenge #101 - Numbers

It's Belli Challenge Wednesday and this time the challenge is to use numbers somewhere on your project.   My card includes the measuring tape paper from Cosmo Cricket's Material Girl line for the challenge.  It was made using the JustRite Stamper's/Stamper's Dream sketch from last Friday.  The main image is from JustRite's Stitched with Love set and the sentiment is from PTI's Studio Style set. 

I paper pieced the heart, flower and leaves, added an itty bitty button to the center of the flower and used Stickles for the heads of the pins (you can click on the image for a larger view).  I used a silver gel pen for the needle and popped the outer ring up using dimensional adhesive tape.  Instead of brads for the sentiment panel, I added a couple of buttons, knotted with embroidery floss.  The buttons on either side of the main image were tied with colored twine.

A Birthday as Perfect as a Rose

Good Monday morning!  It's a dreary, rainy morning here - fitting for a Monday!

This is a birthday card that I made for my mother's recent 90th birthday.  I used a Thomas Kinkade stamp and coordinating sentiment.  The image is paired up with Graphic 45 paper (Tender Missives from the Le Romantique collection) and some gorgeous two-toned blue and copper ribbon.

The image was colored with a LOT of Copic markers and then aged using Distress Inks. Matching pale blue pearls were added to the scalloped borders.  For the inside, I used the same papers and a similar layout.

RI Sketch Challenge S2210

Happy Wednesday and Happy 55th Birthday to my honey!  He is recovering very nicely from his recent surgery and has regained some of the feeling in his right hand, which we didn't think would happen, so we are very pleased.

Well, it's time for another Repeat Impressions Sketch Challenge.  I pulled out these cute little penguins for this challenge and heat embossed them using black embossing powder.  I colored their hats, beaks and feet using Spica pens for a little sparkle and then added some white flocking for their hats and ear muffs.  They are popped up on some foam squares.

RI SOTW - Fawn

It's time for another Repeat Impressions Stamp of the Week and this week's stamp is this adorable fawn image (4212-I Fawn).  I've kept my card pretty simple, using Fall-to-Layout sketch 107.  I paired the image with a sheet of woodgrain paper from Cosmo Cricket's Wanted line.  This versatile image can be used for a variety of card themes (masculine birthday, baby, sympathy, thinking of you, etc.).

Belli Challenge #100 - Birthday Girl!

Welcome to another Belli Challenge!  This week's challenge is to include anything with begins with a 'B' (think buttons, brads, bows, bracket, etc....).  My card has a bunch of 'B' things - a big bow, a butterfly button, the Birthday Girl sentiment, the Bloomer rose balloon and the rose blooms on the patterned paper!  I believe I nailed this challenge!  The funny thing is, I didn't even make this card for the challenge, it just worked out that it fit the theme!  This is the birthday card I sent to my mother for her 90th birthday this past Monday.

The patterned papers are all from Webster's Pages, as is the green rose bloomer that I used for the balloon.  A group of my mother's friends nicknamed her Rose many years ago, so I like using the rose theme when I make cards for her.  The shirt and dress for my Pure Innocence girl were paper pieced and I colored her hair and skin using Copic markers and used Spica markers on her shoes, dress trim and barrette.

The button on the left side of the image is a butterfly, but it's hard to tell in the photo.  I stamped the image directly on the patterned paper. For the inside of the card, I thought this 'Make A Wish' sheet of the Webster's Pages set was appropriate.

RI Sketch Challenge....Better Late than Never...

Holy moly...I just realized that I never setup my post for today's sketch challenge at Repeat Impressions...This holiday week has me all messed up on what day it is! So, without further ado, here is my card using this week's great sketch!  For my main image,  I used 1321-M, Bird and Blossoms and for my diamond shaped elements, I used 4309-C, Bird's Nest and 2617-D, Tiny Bird (flight).  All of these images can be found HERE.  The sketch can be found on today's post at The House That Stamps Built, as can all the wonderful cards my fellow design team members made (and posted on time....).

All the images were colored using Copic markers and the background of my main panel was airbrushed.  I completely messed up my airbrushing on the first panel I did, but I didn't want to lose my colored image, so I cut it out and adhered it on top of the second one.  That was a lot of cutting....


The patterned paper and ribbon are from Making Memories Noteworthy line.  For the inside, I used the sentiment from one of Wendy's Swing Stamps - 8301-U, Little Birdie.

RI SOTW - Jester

Happy Labor Day!  It's time for another Stamp of the Week from Repeat Impressions and this week's stamp is called Jester (#714-G).  This seems like an appropriate image for the Labor Day holiday, doesn't it?!  That's pretty much how I feel to have a long weekend!

I've paired him up with the Happy Everything sentiment, also from Repeat Impressions.  He reminds me of the Joker in a deck of cards, so I went with the red, black and white color scheme.  I paper pieced his costume using the red and white polka dot paper and for his color and the poms on his shoes, I used some Ranger Enamel Accents to give some shine and dimension.  His hat was colored with a gold paint pen.

I used my new Nestabilities Labels Twelve die to cut out the image panel and then layered him on some red and white grid paper and then a layer of white card stock.  I placed some black crystals in the corners, and on the white layers I added some dots and faux stitching.  The dots on the sentiment panel were made using a red Spica glitter pen and the black dots and stitches were made using a Copic Multiliner.

Happy Flippin' Birthday!!

It's time for another Creative Belli Challenge and this week's challenge is to use an old stamp.  I used a Repeat Impressions set of stamps (7207-W, Cake FLIP Set) that I have had for a few years to make this Flip birthday card that I made for my niece's birthday.  These flip cards (also known as waterfall cards) are fun to make and receive.  I paired my birthday cake series with some BasicGrey ice cream and cupcake paper.

The cake images were all colored with Copic markers to match the colors in the patterned paper.

When I got to the stamps that had candles and decorations, out came the Stickles!

The last cake image is nice and sparkly.

For the final stamp in the set, the sentiment, I stamped with Versamark and embossed with some Powder Keg embossing powder.

CTD107 - Gladiolus

Good Monday morning!  Hope you had a nice weekend!  I didn't get nearly enough time in my stamp room, but I did have a chance to play with some new Papertrey Ink stamps that were waiting for me when I got home from being on the road last week.. 

I made this card for this week's Color Throwdown #107, which is to use Pretty in Pink, Rose Red, So Saffron and Pear Pizazz.  I finally pulled out one of my Impressibilities embossing dies and tried my hand at the Letterpress technique, using PTI's Spring Moss ink, for my background layer.  My focal image is from Papertrey Ink's Gladiolus set and was colored using Copic markers.  The sentiment on the tag is from PTI's Mixed Messages set.  My patterned papers are from BasicGrey's Lemonade collection and the scalloped border die is from My Favorite Things. 

I used the leftover strips from my border cut on the front and the main pieces from my die cut on the inside.  The green and ivory gingham ribbon is from Flourishes.


Well, tomorrow is the big day - Tim is scheduled to have his Cubital Tunnel Syndrome surgery in the morning.  We are both a bit anxious about it, but hoping for the best and a speedy recovery.  Wish us luck....

FireCracker Designs Guest Designer - Week 4

Happy Friday!  Today is my last day as a guest designer for FireCracker Designs by Pamela and for today's card I used this great Sail Away image.  The image was colored with Copic markers and I added a cloud cut from some felt.  I think this image makes a great all purpose masculine card.

I've had this sailboat paper for some time and was glad to be able to use some of it.  I didn't want to cover up the sailboats, though, so I tied my sailor's knot and cut a slit through the middle of the panel to feed the string through.  I added a few Dew Drops in the upper right corner to fill in the white space.
